Spoil yourself 007 style with an Aston Martin and five star hotel on its own private island.

“We turn off the motorway near Stirling and plunge into a picturesque landscape of undulating hills and long, empty roads. If there’s a better sensation than driving a convertible Aston Martin along a deserted country road with Duran Duran’s A View To A Kill blaring out of the stereo, I suspect it’s illegal,” Rob McFarland, Traveller Magazine Australia, November 2015.

*As featured in Traveller Magazine Australia “Scotland road trip James Bond style” in November 2015 and BBC’s The Travel Show in May 2014*

The appeal of Bond is timeless – what better way to capture the essence of these iconic movies than with an unforgettable weekend on the road through some of Scotland’s finest scenery?

This short getaway captures the style and glamour of the films in classic car style, allowing you to enjoy the thrills of driving a stylish Aston Martin around some key locations associated with 007.

Holiday Details

Pick up your Aston Martin in the capital city of Edinburgh and head off on a route which will take you past Faslane naval base, featured in The Spy Who Loved Me, and the loch by Crinan, actually used for filming of a boat chase through the Bosphorus in From Russia with Love.

Then what could be more Bond than staying on your own private island?

While at your hotel, learn how to make the ultimate martini, then be whisked by speed boat around Lismore island and past Duart Castle on Mull, traditional home of the MacLeans. The castle fell into ruins but was restored early in the 20th century and is once again the seat of the clan chief. The exploits of soldier and diplomat Fitzroy Hew MacLean, who parachuted into Yugoslavia to assist the resistance in WW2, are said to have been the origins of Ian Fleming’s James Bond and 007.

Your return journey saves the best for last, with a spectacular drive through Glencoe, setting for the dramatic finale of Skyfall.

Your Hotel

Cross the rickety bridge from the west coast mainland to this idyllic five star hideaway and you enter a different world – a world of luxury, seclusion and not a little eccentricity! You’ll find intriguing contrasts and pleasant surprises at every turn. Choose to stay in a characterful room in the castle-style baronial mansion, or splash out – literally – on a Spa suite, complete with private conservatory, patio, large lounge and outdoor Jacuzzi hot tub.

Get really into the spirit of the Bond lifestyle with a pre-dinner Vesper Martini – very definitely shaken, not stirred. It’ll whet your appetite perfectly for the delights which await in the acclaimed restaurant. The menu has been designed to reflect the best available seasonable produce, with fish and seafood from surrounding waters and meat and game from local estates.

Leisure facilities at the Stables Spa are a testament to streamlined modernity with a 17-metre indoor heated swimming pool and full range of ESPA treatments. The rooftop terrace, overlooking the water, is a tranquil spot for leisurely lunches. There’s even a challenging nine-hole golf course, with superb views from its greens and fairways, plus a croquet lawn where you can try your hand at the most refined – and competitive – of British past-times.

Location

Pick up the car in Edinburgh (or Glasgow by arrangement) then head to your private island hotel on the west coast of Scotland near to Oban, with an exclusive speedboat trip around the island of Lismore.

Pricing

£2095 per person for April & October, £2295 per person for May to September.

Prices based on two sharing a deluxe double room at the five star hotel for two nights on dinner, bed & breakfast basis and including three days’ hire of an Aston Martin DB9, cocktail master class and private speedboat ride around the island of Lismore and past Duart Castle.

Your stay includes free use at the hotel of the golf course and driving range, gym, sauna, steam-room and swimming pool. Massage and beauty treatments are available subject to an extra charge.

  • Currently the Aston can only hired to drivers with UK or EU driving licences, maximum age of 70. Other drivers may be accommodated but are subject to pre-approval by the car’s insurers.
  • The car is hired on the basis of a maximum of 400 miles, more than sufficient for the various routes described. Additional miles would incur a charge of £2 per mile.
  • Glasgow can be arranged as a pick-up or drop-off point, subject to availability. The delivery charge is £100.00 each way.

Before your departure, you will receive personalised holiday information including full directions and details on each location to help you get the most from your luxury break.

We would be delighted to assist with accommodation in Edinburgh either before or after your classic car tour as well as transfers to and from the rental depot – please ask us for a quote from our selection of centrally located luxury hotels.

We work hard to make sure the unexpected doesn’t affect your trip. On rare occasions, changes or cancellations may occur, affecting accommodation, transport or excursions. We are committed to informing you of any such circumstances and will use our knowledge and resources to offer suitable alternatives wherever possible.
