Explore three centres in the stunning south-west of Ireland, complete with romantic accommodation and kayaking by moonlight.
This bespoke self-drive honeymoon showcases some of the best romantic locations in Southern Ireland allowing you to rest, relax and gently explore these rural hidden corners. Staying in classic country house accommodation, each stay offers creative yet hearty cuisine, elegant, serene surroundings and above all a warm, sincere Irish welcome.
Begin on the dramatic Hook Peninsula on the south coast boasting wild lands and mountains with spectacular coastal views. Next meander inland to the lush green valleys of the Blackwater in the Northern Cork countryside, an ideal touring base. Finish in scenic West Cork where you will enjoy a peaceful evening kayaking on moonlit waters underneath a blanket of stars in an enchantingly romantic experience you will never forget.
Your first base is a country House hotel close to Wexford and Waterford on the East Coast, within easy reach of Dublin and Rosslare.
This luxury Georgian Country House is run by an Irish celebrity chef and his wife, who have created a warm and welcoming place to stay. Elegant and chic, the house has a classical Irish interior imbued with many sensitive and stylish modern touches. Fresh flowers from the garden adorn most rooms, crackling fires warm cosy corners and drowsy guests will be delighted to hear that breakfast is served until 12 am every day. As you would expect, the food here is of a very high standard and dining in the Harvest Room Restaurant is a special treat.
Rich in culture and tradition, and boasting a wealth of beaches begging for exploration the Hook Peninsula is the ideal place to gently introduce relaxation to your honeymoon. Take a drive into the Comeragh Mountains to uncover some wild land and superb views over the coast beyond – weather permitting! Meanwhile nearby Wexford is a pretty town, with a wealth of arts and crafts, and a good place to wander.
Continue south, following the Wild Atlantic Way, to the village of Baltimore, with its bustling natural harbour a haven for yachts and ferries to local islands, as well as offering a range of excellent restaurants and friendly bars.
Located on the outskirts of the village, this traditional inn features a bar area crammed with memorabilia of years gone by, leading into a bright and airy restaurant. Dine on sumptuously fresh seafood as you gaze out to the boats bobbing on the water, or chat over a Murphy’s with the locals. Rooms are extremely spacious, and neatly decorated with splashes of cheery colours. A feeling of being beside the seaside pervades the hotel.
There is so much to enjoy in this area, from peaceful walks to dramatic headlands, so we allow you some time to explore this rather special corner of West Cork. You will have plenty of time to explore on your own, perhaps heading further west to the village of Schull, with its colourful craft shops. Drive to Mizen Head, visit the imposing Bantry House and estate, or enjoy one the numerous coastal walks around the Baltimore area.
During your stay experience something unique and phenomenal as you kayak under the starlit skies of West Cork. You will begin your paddle an hour before sun down, allowing you time to get used to your vessel with your group and guide. Gasp in awe at the delights the darkness unfolds from the elegant silhouettes of the seabirds resting ashore, the warm crimson sunset, the twinkling canopy overhead, the soft moonlight mirrored on the water, or, at certain times of year, the amazing bio-luminescence below. This truly a once in a lifetime magic experience you will both cherish forever.
Your trip is completed in a rather special hotel, a tranquil rural base.
This classic accommodation is an award winning historic Irish country house set peacefully in the flourishing green countryside in Northern Cork. The original building was a traditional Georgian home built in 1728 for a once Lord Chief Justice of Ireland, Sir Richard Pyne. Elegantly modified 120 years later in Italianate style the house is now a charmingly furnished, family owned period home, offering warm hospitality and comfortable accommodation.
In this hidden valley of Cork relax and enjoy the very best of Irish cuisine and gentle strolls through the surrounding idyllic walled gardens, ornamental lakes and magnificent parkland beyond. Your accomodation is also a working farm hosting cattle that graze on the surrounding pastures who kept good company by a small herd of donkeys (Poquita, Carisma & Heloise). Nearby the market town of Fermoy is ideal for an afternoon coffee or a riverside stroll while the scenic Bride and Blackwater Valleys provide a haven for anglers, walkers, golfers, horse-riders, garden-lovers and sightseers.
This triple-centre honeymoon features the spectacular Hook Peninsula, Baltimore in West Cork and finally the North Cork Countryside near Fermoy.
